Another wild elephant was shot dead in Negathur Village, yesterday night (19th May, 2002), outside the northern limits of the Nagarhole National Park. Details are awaited.

This is the third incidence of elephant killing in this area (around Lakshmanathirtha river) in four months. Whilst a female elephant was shot dead in February at the same spot, a male tusker was electrocuted a week ago (on 15.5.2002), in the adjacent Kolavige bridge.
